Mouldings and mounts

Bare wood mouldings

Bare wood mouldingsVery popular due to the diverse range of natural or hand made finishes available.

Hard woods such as oak, ash or beech are often left plain or waxed.

Soft woods such as obeche, tulip and pint can be left plain, but are particularly good for finishes such as liming, staining and painting.

Finished mouldings

Hand finished mouldings
There are a vast range of colours, depths, textures, sizes and styles across the finished moulding range.

Hand finished mouldings

Finished mouldingsAfter choosing your bare wood moulding our trained staff will hand finish any colour or style with waxing, liming, painting, staining or polishing.

For extra special detail and emphasis we also offer speciality shaped and hand finished mounts.

Box frames

Box frameBox frames are used as a way of providing depth to the framed image or 3d object, such as medals or football shirts.

We stock a number of ‘box’ style mouldings with depths up to 65mm.

Box frames are equally effective when used for float mounting a print or painting. A fillet is used to space the glass away from the image creating ‘breathing space’ for the image and preventing the contact with the glass.

Mounts

MountsThe importance of selecting the right mount is often overlooked. In order to ensure an effective partnership between image or object and frame, the mount size, texture, depth and materials must be considered carefully. In addition to a wide selection of colours, textures and depths we offer circle, oval and multi-aperture mounts. Our range is ph neutral/acid free; see conservation quality framing for more information.

Have you thought about float mounting?
It’s great for showing off textured edges, as found on handmade paper. Float mounting can also be used to create depth by setting the mount further back in the frame. It can also be used to show off painting brush strokes and textures as it’s suitable for use with or without glass.
