Who we are

Nick Holyman

Nick entered the industry as a school leaver on a picture framing youth training scheme in Essex, alongside  retail and customer service training with Colchester trade and commerce.

Upon completion he quickly progressed to managing a framing department in a south London store for 6 years before opening his own picture framing and giftware business back in his native Essex. The business was so successful that within 4 years it expanded into 2 new premises, serving over 5,000 customers a year. During this time Nick honed his specialty hand-finishing techniques – painting, staining and limewaxing natural woods such as Ash, Oak, Tulip and Obeche to achieve beautiful results.

Nick became a freelance framer in 2004, framing artwork for internationally recognized artists such as James Dodds and Kate Boxer, and exhibiting in many different types of galleries all over the South East of England including the renowned Cork Street, London. He continues to frame to Fine Art Trade Guild conservation and museum standards.

Nick joined Com2 Picture framing in 2010 and finds the combined roles of workshop manager and therapeutic supporter to Jobs in Mind project members both interesting and rewarding. Nick is a keen photographer in his spare time and admires the work of portrait artist Rankin, landscape photographer Joe Cornish, and printmaker Norman Ackroyd.

Simon Chung

Simon started his career in picture framing in 2006, learning on the job and gaining his Fine Art Trade Guild Conservation and Museum commended framer certificate, qualifying him to frame artwork to conservation level quality standards.

Simon’s customers range from general members of the public, to increasingly popular artists Asa Shoul and Lewis Austin, and exhibition pieces for Studio Upstairs, Zabladowicz Gallery,Camden Art Gallery and the KPK Gallery. Simon offers frame selection, framing and hanging packages for exhibitions, and recently worked on large projects with China Culture Connect and the Garden Route Children’s Project.

He has a very strong eye for detail and very high quality standards, no matter what job he is framing. He is particularly skilled with box frames, hand finishing, hand painted wash line mounts, canvas stretching, heatsealing, drymounting and encapsulating.

Simon joined Com2 Picture framing in 2010. He likes working at Com2 because he gets personal satisfaction from the entire picture framing process from start to finish, and enhancing the framed piece.  In his spare time Simon likes watching sport and relaxing. He really likes communist style propaganda artwork, Banksy and pop art.
